Absolutely heartbreaking experience – avoid Becker Family Funerals if you value compassion or professionalism. When my father passed away suddenly last year, I trusted Becker Family Funerals to help me honour him. Instead, they let me, and more importantly, him, down in the most devastating ways. Because I didn’t have access to his phone at the time, I relied on the funeral home to place an obituary in the local paper. They “forgot”. As a result, barely anyone outside our family knew he had passed — despite my dad having lived in Taree for over 10 years. Only four non-family members came to the service. It broke my heart. He deserved so much better. When I asked for compensation or even basic accountability, I was met with a shrug and a “sorry, there’s nothing we can do.” After multiple phone calls, eventually, I spoke with Tom Becker (the younger Becker I believe). When I tried to explain how their failure impacted the funeral turnout and how just saying sorry and posting an extra radio ad wasn’t enough and that I wanted the professional fee deducted because the actions of that staff member were far from professional, his response? “If it’s just about the money for you we can knock some off the coffin.” IF. ITS. JUST. ABOUT. THE. MONEY. Who says that to a grieving 29-year-old who just suddenly lost her dad? To be clear it’s not about the money but when you charge 10k for a funeral, and 3k as a professional fee, you better be sure you’re keeping the upmost professionalism
