Accessibility
As of 2026-05-20
Funerals Direct is committed to making the directory usable for everyone, including people with disabilities. We design and build to WCAG 2.2 Level AA standards and test regularly with assistive technologies.
Our commitment
We follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.2 (WCAG 2.2) at Level AA. This covers four areas: perceivable content, operable interface, understandable information, and robust technical implementation.
What we have done
- Semantic HTML with proper heading order on every page
- Visible focus indicators on every interactive element
- Keyboard navigation support across the site, including search, filters, and forms
- Skip-to-content link at the top of every page
- Form fields with explicit labels, error messages, and ARIA descriptions
- Sufficient colour contrast for body text (target 4.5:1 minimum)
- Alt text on meaningful images, with decorative imagery marked appropriately
- Reduced-motion support honouring the prefers-reduced-motion media query
- Tap targets of at least 44 by 44 pixels for primary actions
What we are still working on
Accessibility is an ongoing programme. We are currently working on:
- A full axe-core audit and remediation pass
- Screen reader testing with NVDA, JAWS, and VoiceOver across all critical user journeys
- Improving the accessibility of filter and compare interactions
- Reviewing colour contrast on sponsored card variants
Browser and assistive technology compatibility
The directory works with modern browsers including the latest two major versions of Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge. We aim for compatibility with common assistive technologies including screen readers (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, TalkBack), screen magnifiers, and voice control software.
