Our story
Funerals Direct was built to solve a problem every Australian family meets at some point. When someone dies, finding clear information about local funeral services is harder than it should be. Pricing is opaque, ownership is rarely clear, and directories that do not say which listings are paid do not help families compare.
The way people find services has changed. More and more, the search starts with Google or an AI assistant, and that quietly decides which funeral directors a family ever sees. Plenty of good local providers do caring work in their community but do not have the digital skills or budget to show up online.
We do not think that should decide who a grieving family can find. So we list funeral directors right across the country, not just the ones with the biggest marketing, so every family can reach the people best placed to support them when they need it most.
Some funeral directors pay for a fuller listing and a labelled local featured section. Families never pay anything.
Sponsored listings
Some funeral directors pay for a Featured or Featured+ listing. That gives them a fuller page and a card in a labelled featured section for an agreed local area. Payment does not change the order of ordinary results: every director stays in the same place in the list whether or not they pay. In Get free quotes, where you choose up to three funeral directors to ask for a quote, directors with a paid place on that suburb’s page are listed first and labelled as paid. You choose which directors to ask.
On a suburb or city page, up to five paid listings can appear above the ordinary results under a “Featured funeral directors in” heading marked “Paid placement”, with a link back to this page. Featured+ listings come first, then Featured, each in order of distance to the suburb. How many places a page has depends on how many directors it lists, each brand can hold one place on a page, and no area is sold exclusively. A paid listing carries a Featured or Featured+ label on its card and on its listing page.
If you choose a service or a religion, directors who match your choice are moved up the ordinary list, whether or not they pay.
Paying does not change a director's rating or review count. Paid listings go through the same editorial review as every other listing. None of this changes a ranking on Google or any other search engine.
Families always pay nothing. A quote request goes only to the director or directors you choose, when we hold an email for them, with a copy to the Funerals Direct team. It is not sent to anyone else, whether or not a listing is Featured.
In Get free quotes, where you can ask up to three directors at once, directors with a paid place on that suburb’s page are listed first, Featured+ then Featured, each with its paid label. Everyone else follows in the suburb page order, never by payment, and you choose who to ask.
