How we compile our data and pricing

Our directory is built from published sources. We compile each listing from publicly available information, including a provider's own website, public business registrations like the Australian Business Register, listed contact details and addresses, and public review platforms. Every listing we compile is reviewed by our editorial team before it is published. Changes a director saves in their own listing editor go live straight away.

We aim to cover funeral directors right across Australia, in capital cities and regional towns alike, not only the providers with the largest marketing budgets. A listing on Funerals Direct does not imply any commercial relationship with the provider.

Pricing on Funerals Direct is presented as indicative ranges drawn from published listings. Where a provider publishes a price, we show it and link to the source. Where we have not found a published price for a provider, we do not estimate or invent a figure for it.

Our state and national medians, including the figures in the Australian Funeral Price Index, are compiled from providers who publish pricing. They are indicative starting points, not quotes. Package inclusions vary between providers at the same headline price, and prices change regularly, so figures should be treated as a guide and confirmed directly with the provider. The pricing data is reviewed and refreshed periodically.

We work to keep listings accurate and up to date, and we update records as new public information becomes available. Because details can change, the most reliable source is always the provider directly, so we encourage families to confirm services, availability, and pricing before making arrangements.

We do not label listed funeral directors by ownership. Many long-standing local names belong to larger groups, ownership changes hands, and we could not confirm every business to the standard we hold our other information to. To check who owns a funeral director, search its business name on ABN Lookup (abr.business.gov.au) or ask the director directly. Our guide to funeral ownership explains how.

Funerals Direct is funded by funeral directors, not families. Some directors pay for a fuller listing and a card in a labelled local featured section. Payment does not change the order of ordinary results, on our listing pages or in search results. Paid listings carry a Featured or Featured+ label on their card and listing page. None of this changes a ranking on Google or any other search engine. Paying does not change a director's rating or review count, and Featured and Featured+ listings are held to the same editorial review as every other listing.

A request goes to the provider a family chooses to contact when we hold an email for them, with a copy to the Funerals Direct team. It is not sent to other providers.
